Their dark, often insubordinate humor sparked controversy among army brass and incensed General George S. With their heavy brush lines, detailed battlescapes, and pidgin of army slang and slum dialect, Mauldin’s cartoons and captions recreated on paper the fully realized world of the American combat soldier. ![]() ![]() Bill Mauldin knew war because he was in it. Suggestive rather than explicit, and seeming all the more powerful for what is left unsaid, Carver's stories were held up as exemplars of a new school in American fiction known as minimalism or "dirty realism," a movement whose wide influence continues to this day. Beneath his pared-down surfaces run disturbing, violent undercurrents. ![]() In collections such as Will You Please Be Quiet, Please? and What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, Carver wrote with unflinching exactness about men and women enduring lives on the knife-edge of poverty and other deprivations. Raymond Carver's spare dramas of loneliness, despair, and troubled relationships breathed new life into the American short story of the 1970s and a80s. ![]() ![]() ![]() However, I provide an exemption for fan art, provided you do not attach it to the document and clearly explain that the art is not mine or related officially to the project.ĥ) I also provide an exemption for fanfics, provided that-again-you do not attach them to this work or imply they are my work. ![]() In a more specific explanation, this means that:ġ) You are free to share this book with anyone you like, provided you don’t change the document at all or profit from the distribution.Ģ) You may print off copies of the book for personal use, but-again-may not profit from doing so.ģ) You may not change the text of the work in any way, or imply that you wrote the book, or anything of that nature.Ĥ) There is a no derivative works clause on this, since I don’t want people adding chapters to the end or altering the work. ![]() For an official explanation of this, visit the Creative Commons website.
